Fatigue driving is undoubtedly dangerous, especially for truck drivers. As they travel along the freeway, their driving style is more motorized. In order to remind truck drivers when they should take a short break, Ford puts a detection system in a truck driver's cap. Ford Brazil’s heavy-duty trucks division created a hat called SafeCap that looks just like any other ordinary hat.

However, it is loaded with sensors and hardware to prevent fatigue driving. Ford recognizes drowsiness by using accelerometers and gyroscopes on his hat.

If the driver is drowsy, the hat will emit three different types of signals. The hat can vibrate, emit a sound and flash, reminding the driver when to stop and take a short break. The car manufacturer spent eight months testing a group of drivers.

Fatigue driving can be as dangerous as distracted driving or drunk driving. The reaction time becomes slower during fatigue driving, and the driver may even fall asleep, causing the vehicle to completely lose control. This kind of hat can obviously help prevent fatigue driving.

However, Ford does not plan to produce this hat in a short period of time. After testing, it will enter the patent and certification stage. In addition, Ford plans to share SafeCap with its partners and customers in order to bring it to market.
