The 2011 Taiwan PV Forum and Exhibition (PVTaiwan) was successfully concluded at the Taipei World Trade Center on October 8. In three days, the show attracted more than 10,000 visitors from more than 60 countries. An official of the Taiwan External Trade Association (TAITRA) stated: “The scale of the exhibition has increased by 30% compared with last year. 286 exhibiting companies have set up a total of 806 booths, demonstrating to the world the vitality of Taiwan’s solar cell industry.”

TAITRA stated that CPV's potential for future market development is very high. The heat-resisting characteristics and limited space requirements of the technology make it very attractive to many island countries. The climatic conditions of these countries are dry and sunny. During the exhibition, a total of 125 one-on-one procurement fairs were held. The total number of on-site and subsequent business transactions exceeded US$180 million.

The exhibition was jointly organized by the Taiwan External Trade Association and the Global Trade Association's international semiconductor equipment and materials, setting up different theme areas, including the first appearance of the DSSC Pavilion and photovoltaic cells/components/system halls. Other topics include Concentrating Photovoltaic (HCPV) Hall and New Product & Solutions Outlook.

With a complete photovoltaic supply chain covering silicon wafers, batteries and components, Taiwan will become Asia's premier PV manufacturing center. In 2010, Taiwan’s total production of photovoltaic cells reached 3.5GWp, with an annual growth rate of more than 80%, making it the best performing PV-related product in the region.

Allround technology is one of the leaders in the solar energy industry in Taiwan. This ISO9000-certified company was originally established in 1999 by a group of professionals with extensive experience in the energy field. Versatile Technology specializes in designing and manufacturing high efficiency, high power 200Wp solar modules. Through cooperation with solarnova, a German manufacturer of solar module components, Almighty Technologies has adopted the most advanced German production equipment and processes.

Tai Chi Energy was founded in 2007 by a group of professionals who previously worked in the solar energy and automation industries. The core business goal of Tai Chi Energy is to design, develop, manufacture and market high-performance solar cells. The company plans to expand its production capacity from the current 200 MV to 500 MV this year, and its 200 MV plant in Kunshan, China has also been put into production. Tai Chi Energy's products include 6-inch polycrystalline silicon solar cells with an efficiency of 17.4%.

Yingdeng Da Technology was established in 2010 and was founded by Yingdeng Group, which has a long-standing reputation in the electronics and IT industries. After accumulating rich experience in the design and manufacturing of end products, the company decided to enter the clean energy industry. Yingwenda Technology's initial production capacity is 180MW, and it is 300MW at the end of 2011, and it is expected to complete 1.2GW in 2012. The company's production plan is implemented by a team with extensive experience in the semiconductor and solar power industries.

Other emerging solar energy companies in the region also include Sunny Solar and Asahi Solar. Rich Sunlight was established in 2007 and the annual output of thin film photovoltaic modules can reach 45MW. Xuneng Optoelectronics was also established in 2007. With its decade-long experience in thin-film product development, Sunergy has mass-produced a new generation of low-cost, high-efficiency solar cells.

In addition, southern Taiwan will become a gathering place for solar power generation. At present, six solar power stations are under construction in Tainan County, and the overall investment is about US$10 million.

Taiwan is the second largest production area after China in terms of photovoltaic cell production worldwide. Both regions together occupy nearly 60% of the global market. Taiwan has a stable supply chain network and its products include different silicon materials and solar modules. The area has recently developed into a manufacturing base for photovoltaic products, especially in the Asia Pacific region.

In recent years, the annual installed capacity of solar photovoltaics in Taiwan has been steadily increasing. In 2006, the annual installed capacity of photovoltaic systems in the region was only 1 MW. From 2006 to 2010, the compound annual growth rate of the region reached 86.1%, and the installed capacity reached 12MW in 2010.

The per capita consumption of solar power per watt is also increasing. Judging from the current development trend, with the support of the government, the solar energy industry has the potential to become a strategic industry in Taiwan.

Plastic Package Diode.Among the electronic components, a device having two electrodes allows only the current to flow in a single direction, and many uses apply its rectification function. The Varicap Diode is used as an electronic adjustable capacitor. Most of the diodes have a current directionality that we often call the "Rectifying" function. The most common function of a diode is to allow only current to pass in a single direction (referred to as forward bias) and block in the reverse direction (referred to as reverse bias). Therefore, the diode can be thought of as an electronic version of the check valve.
