On November 30, 2017, the Shanghai Jinqiao AVR Industry Promotion Conference took place in Chengdu, China, marking a significant milestone for the virtual reality sector. The conference, themed "Hug the Golden Bridge and Win the Future Together," aimed to foster collaboration and innovation within the industry.
Organized by several key entities including the China Network Audiovisual Program Service Association, the Jinqiao Authority of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Management Committee, and the Shanghai Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee, the event was supported by the Shanghai Digital Content Industry Promotion Center and co-organized by leading companies such as MIDI Video Technology, CCTV Media, Zhongke Xinsong, and Shanghai Haojing Technology.
According to Greenlight Insights, the global VR market was projected to reach $7.2 billion in 2017, with an expected growth to $74.8 billion by 2021. China has emerged as the second-largest hub for VR companies worldwide, with a growing number of startups driving innovation. Notably, Chinese and U.S.-based VR firms captured around 20% and 60% of global investments respectively.
As a pioneer in reform and opening up, Shanghai's AVR industry holds a significant share of the national market, with Pudong New Area leveraging the opportunities provided by the China (Shanghai) Free Trade Experimental Zone to strengthen its position.
Jinqiao, one of the four original state-level development zones in Pudong, has a rich history spanning nearly three decades. It continues to evolve, embracing new technologies like virtual reality to drive its future growth.
During the conference, Wang Jing, Deputy Head of Pudong New Area, expressed high expectations for Jinqiao’s development in the AVR industry. Ni Weihua, General Manager of the Jinqiao Stock Industry Construction Operations Department, highlighted the potential of the VR industry as a new growth driver for Jinqiao, encouraging more top-tier AVR companies to join.
Hu Yi, Deputy General Manager of MIDI Video, discussed the company’s achievements and future strategies in VR, aligning them with China Mobile’s “big connection†initiative. Xu Nan from Zhongke Xinsong emphasized the synergy between AI and VR, predicting it would define the next era of robotics.
Ling Meixing, Secretary-General of the Global Virtual Reality Congress, shared insights on the current state of Jinqiao’s AVR industry, stressing the importance of a strong industrial ecosystem for sustainable growth.
The Shanghai Jinqiao AVR Industry Support Ceremony was also held, with notable attendees including Wang Jing, Zhou Jie, and other officials who participated in a symbolic handprint ceremony.
Since its establishment in 1990, Jinqiao Import and Export Processing Zone has achieved remarkable progress over 27 years, gaining valuable experience. With the rise of the AVR industry, Jinqiao is actively leveraging existing resources to promote cutting-edge technologies like 5G and VR. The zone is also building a comprehensive support system, enhancing the business environment, service infrastructure, and policy frameworks to ensure continued growth and success.
