How to create the best system installation USB drive? A pure version is clean, but it often comes with many tools, which can be inconvenient. Some users prefer a separate folder setup, but that's quite tedious. If you integrate everything well, it becomes much easier. An online integrated version is convenient, but you might worry about hidden malware or unwanted software. In reality, doing it yourself is the most reliable and practical approach. Here’s a simple method that doesn't require any third-party tools—just follow along.
First, you'll need a USB drive of at least 8GB. For better compatibility, I recommend using Windows 10. You’ll also need to use the Diskpart command, and you can extract the ISO file directly into a virtual drive for easy access. Let’s get started.
Open the Start menu (or Run in Windows 7), right-click on "cmd" and select "Run as administrator."
Type "diskpart" and press Enter to enter the Diskpart command line.
Now, type "list disk" to see all connected drives. Be careful to select your own USB drive—mistakes here could erase important data. On my computer, the USB is listed as Disk 2, so I’ll type "select disk 2".
Next, type "clean" to remove all existing data from the USB drive.
Create a primary partition by typing "create partition primary", then select it with "select partition 1".
Make this partition active by typing "active"—this step is crucial for bootability.
Now format the USB drive with "format fs=exfat quick". ExFAT is recommended for compatibility, though FAT32 can be used if needed. The "quick" option speeds up the process.
At this point, your USB drive should be more than halfway done. If no drive letter appears, assign one using "assign x:" (replace x with your desired letter). Then exit Diskpart with "exit".
For Windows 8 or later, simply double-click the ISO file to mount it as a virtual drive. For Windows 7, you may need a tool like UltraISO. Once mounted, copy all files (including hidden ones) to the USB drive. Now, your system installation USB is ready.
Finally, add commonly used software such as driver packages or Office installers. This way, your USB will not only boot the system but also carry essential tools. It’s clean, free of bloatware, and works just like a standard installation disk.
