Beijing, October 24, 2014 . Texas Instruments (TI) today announced the addition of signal processing capabilities to its new DRA75x processor to help customers enhance their infotainment systems and pair their information with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) capabilities. The perfect combination of the two will help customers produce cars with extremely high digital cockpit integration and traditional infotainment without compromising performance. The Jacinto 6 EP and Jacinto 6 Ex two new DRA75x processors and other "Jacinto" devices are developed based on the same architecture, enabling automakers to expand their investment without additional research and development or a significant increase in bill of materials ( BOM) provides a diverse portfolio of software and hardware compatibility.

DRA75x

Jacinto 6 EP: Extended processing performance and concurrency

The Jacinto 6 EP is the processing performance leader in the infotainment industry with 1.4GHz digital signal processor (DSP) performance, equivalent to 22 GFLOPS/60 GMACS. The Jacinto 6 EP device has all the features of the Jacinto 6, providing additional peripheral and DSP power while controlling system cost. By incorporating additional USB, video input and PCIe interfaces required for some infotainment systems with strict IO requirements, the Jacinto 6 EP reduces BOM costs. Another TMS320C66x DSP core that provides a total of 1.4 GHz signal processing performance can be used in image processing techniques, such as dynamically combining multiple lenses into a single look-around or top view. In addition, additional DSP performance supports enhanced wireless configuration (multi-tuner with antenna diversity and background scanning, multi-mode configuration), audio and speech processing, active noise control (ANC), speech recognition and a variety of other technology.

Jacinto 6 Ex: Achieving innovative integration between IVI and information ADAS

By providing two embedded vision engines (EVE) that are suitable for simultaneously running the information ADAS system and infotainment without affecting the performance of both systems, the Jacinto 6 Ex device offers the extra performance and integration that the Jacinto 6 EP can have. This further extends the platform. Information ADAS can use the camera inside and outside the car to present features such as object and pedestrian detection, enhanced reality navigation and driver identification to enhance the driving experience without the need to dynamically control the vehicle. These features are available for the center console, programmable cluster and head-up display systems.

EVE supports high-performance analysis and vision algorithms running simultaneously through ARM®, GPU, DSP, multimedia, and add-on subsystems to deliver unobstructed performance, unlike any other product currently on the market. EVE and related software libraries allow customers to control their development by leveraging a programmable, high-performance, flexible EVE core suitable for analysis algorithms.

Highly scalable device family

Based on the same architecture, the Jacinto 6 device family is pin-for-pin compatible with a wide range of highly scalable ARM® Cortex®-A15 device families for automotive applications. The Jacinto range offers a wide range of price, performance and integration capabilities, as well as a proven ARM® Cortex®-A15 solution that supports up to four 1080p displays and four 1080p video and camera inputs. The HD display and megapixel camera can be connected to a Jacinto processor using the FPD-Link III Ser/Des chipset. The DS90UH925Q serializer and DS90UH926Q deserializer can simultaneously carry digital video, audio and bidirectional I2C control signals over a single twisted pair using the HDCP protection interface protocol. The DS90UB913AQ serializer and DS90UB914AQ deserializer connect the camera module to a processor that uses a low-cost coaxial cable. In addition, the auxiliary ARM® Cortex®-M4 subsystem offloads real-time interrupt-intensive tasks such as those used to process vehicle stacks.

As TI's fully integrated power management IC, the TPS659039-Q1 is specifically designed to work seamlessly with the Jacinto 6 System-on-Chip (SoC) family. Designed to support demanding automotive-grade requirements, the TPS659039-Q1 meets the system power requirements of the Jacinto 6 Series while minimizing power consumption in the system. The TPS659039-Q1 is AEC-Q100 compliant and supports the entire range of Jacinto 6 devices for scalability.

The four variants of the Jacinto series, including the previously released Jacinto 6 and Jacinto 6 Eco devices, offer further scalability. In addition, all of the Jacinto family's products can be used with TI's WiLinkTM 8Q Wi-Fi, Bluetooth® and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) combo connectivity platforms to create out-of-the-box automotive infotainment products. Customers who design infotainment systems can use their investment to develop products for a wide range of vehicles, from regular to luxury, on the same DRA7xx Jacinto platform, reducing R&D costs and speeding time-to-market. Jacinto tools and software such as QNX, Linux and Android Software Development Kits (SDKs), available hardware development and reference platforms, and industry-leading third-party ecosystems can help reduce development costs and quickly add valuable new features.

Availability

Samples of the DRA75xJacinto 6 EP and Jacinto 6 Ex processors are available now and are expected to be available for production in the fourth quarter of 2014. The two DRA75x processors are designed for automotive manufacturers that are mass-produced and are not sold through distributors.
