New TouchXpress fixed function device

In order to meet the growing demand for capacitive sensing and touch functions in embedded systems, Silicon Labs has introduced two TouchXpress family members:

CPT007B GPIO switch replacement devices enable developers to quickly replace up to seven mechanical buttons with capacitive touch sensors without the need for firmware development. The GPIO interface directly provides on/off Sensor status to the host processor.

· The CPT112S Capacitive Sensing I2C device supports up to 12 sensor inputs, greatly simplifying the complexity of adding capacitive sensing to touch interfaces. The I2C interface provides an easy way to track the state of the touch sensor, and after the proximity touch detection event, the interrupt pin can wake up the host processor in hibernation.

Both capacitive touch controllers support a variety of advanced features that enhance the user experience, such as moisture resistance, near wake-up, touch timeout, mutual exclusion touch definition, and buzzer sound feedback. In addition, the CPT112S device offers slider control options.

No firmware or capacitive sensing expertise required

Based on Silicon Labs' proven patented capacitive sensing technology, the TouchXpress controller provides the best alternative solution, providing the simplest touch interface development solution for embedded designers of all skill levels. The development of capacitive touch interfaces based on TouchXpress technology eliminates the need for firmware development, programming or capacitive sensing expertise. In addition, this type of controller chip eliminates the need for off-chip devices, and developers can easily configure and evaluate all capacitive sensing parameters using Silicon Labs' intuitive, GUI-based Xpress Configurator and Capacitive Sense Profiler.

The TouchXpress controller delivers outstanding energy efficiency, extends battery life, and enables smaller batteries in wearable or other portable devices. Excellent signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance results in better reliability and touch performance, which is critical for instrumentation and measurement and control applications.

TouchXpress product features:

Industry-leading ultra-low power consumption: active current as low as 200μA and sleep current <1μA.

· 270:1 SNR brings a more reliable capacitive sensing solution.

· Up to 12 capacitive sensor inputs with programmable sensitivity.

· Reliable moisture resistance to avoid false triggering due to perspiration, water droplets or mist.

· Proximity wake-up feature minimizes overall system power consumption.

· Advanced tools reduce development time.

· Small size (3mm × 3mm package) for space-constrained applications.

Daniel Cooley, vice president of marketing for IoT products at Silicon Labs, said: "With the growing demand for capacitive touch control in embedded systems, developers are looking for faster, more convenient, and more economical ways to use capacitors in their designs. Sensing technology. Silicon Labs' powerful low-power TouchXpress controller eliminates complex firmware development and is flexible with minimal risk and fastest time-to-market with advanced tool support and a proven design environment Touch interface."

Advanced tools simplify application development

Silicon Labs has built-in support for TouchXpress controllers in the Simplicity Studio development platform to simplify capacitive touch development. A unified software environment provides advanced tools for configuring and analyzing capacitive sensing data. The easy-to-use Xpress Configurator quickly configures touch parameters, generates the custom projects you need, and includes factory-programmed options. The Capacitive Sense Profiler features a simple GUI for real-time capacitive sensing evaluation that accelerates prototyping and reduces the difficulty of building and tuning system performance tasks. To further accelerate development, Silicon Labs also offers low-cost SLEXP8007A and SLEXP8008A evaluation kits that support the CPT007B and CPT112S controllers.
