Panasonic will start OLED lighting business in 2012

Solid-state lighting (LEDs and OLEDs) is attracting attention as the next generation of lighting. However, OLEDs are used in the development of lighting. Because the luminous efficiency is still low and the cost is high, it has not yet been commercialized at this stage. In order to improve the luminous efficiency, OLED industry generally starts from the luminescent material or the panel structure, among them Panasonic's OLED lighting trial products adopts the high refractive index hemisphere type under the phosphorescent material in the luminescent layer.

For OLED industry, the future technology and specifications will have a lot of room for growth. Therefore, PIOL has also set a target plan to 2018.

By 2015, PIOL OLED lighting panel development plan will increase the luminous efficiency from the current 30 lm/W to 100 lm/W, the brightness from 3,000 cd/m2 to 5,000 cd/m2, and the beam maintenance rate will be 70%. It has been increased to 20,000 hours in 10,000 hours, and it has grown to a size of 300×300mm.

By 2018, PIOL is expected to further increase the luminous efficiency of OLED lighting panels to 130 lm/W. The 70% lifetime of the beam maintenance rate will increase to 40,000 hours, the size will be expanded to 600×600 mm, and flexible, transparent panels will be developed.
