As a result, high-priced SSDs have once again become expensive. However, looking at the overall trend, it's clear that HDDs are being completely outperformed by SSDs in terms of performance, noise, and other aspects. It's just a matter of time before HDDs are phased out entirely.
At the 2017 Yingcai Carnival event, Qmax and Galaxy introduced a new generation of SSD master controllers supporting both SATA and NVMe standards. These controllers offer a maximum capacity of 8TB, making them the largest consumer SSD drives available with speeds exceeding 3GB/s. The performance is impressive, and they also support future 96-layer QLC flash technology, paving the way for even larger storage capacities in the future.
Yingchi began producing SSDs in 2011 and has since partnered with several manufacturers. Today, Yingchi is one of the most important partners on the mainland. The 2017 Carnival was strongly supported by the Group, with Mr. Pan Jiancheng, Chairman of the Qantas Group, delivering a keynote speech. He introduced the new generation of Qantas' main control products and revealed two upcoming products for next year: the PS3112 for 2.5-inch SATA interface and the PS5012 controller for PCI-E.
The PS3112 controller supports the SATA 6Gbps interface, featuring an 8-channel architecture with read speeds up to 560MB/s and write speeds of 530MB/s. It incorporates advanced technologies such as Core Processor, Code Sign, Smart X-Black, and supports second-generation LDPC error correction, significantly enhancing reliability.
In terms of capacity, the PS3112 can support up to 8TB, which is the highest among consumer SSDs. It not only supports 3D TLC flash memory but also includes future support for 96-layer QLC flash, allowing for continued expansion in storage capacity.
The PS5012 controller is designed for PCI-E channel products, supporting the latest NVMe 1.3 standard and PCI-E 3.0 x4 channel. It offers read speeds of up to 3200MB/s and write speeds of 3000MB/s, placing it at the top of current PCI-E drive performance.
The PS5012 also supports a maximum capacity of 8TB, and Yingchi showcased both 8TB PCI-E and SATA hard drives at the event. These advancements highlight the growing capabilities of modern SSD technology and its increasing dominance over traditional HDDs.
