At the CES conference, Ricoh released a new VR camera Ricoh R, which can record and broadcast 360 panoramic content 24 hours a day. Ricoh R started as a developer version and will not be introduced to the consumer market for the time being.
According to Xiaobian, this product can broadcast panoramic content at a rate of 2K/30 FPS, and other equipment will be shipped this spring.
Ricoh has conducted tests at live events, most recently with the 2016 Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. The content captured by the device can be watched through VR heads, such as Google Cardboard or more high-end head-displays.
Ricoh said that a series of beta tests proves that the technology has "broad prospects" such as education, games, surveys and entertainment. This is why the product was initially promoted as a developer package, so that developers can develop different applications for them and further explore the potential of the product.
Ricoh R can split video in real time and output via USB or HDMI connection. Recordings will be stored on the micro SD card. In addition, the camera has a built-in battery, but the corresponding adapter is also provided for charging. As for prices, Ricoh has yet to release specific information.
