Recently, Renesas Electronics announced the expansion of the RX63T Group microcontroller series. The new RX63T MCU has more pins and more memory capacity, and expands its built-in functions, such as USB 2.0, 10-bit D / A converter and faster ADC (minimum conversion time is 0.5 microseconds (Îœs)) and increase the number of timers and serial I / F channels.

The new RX63T is also compatible with the functions of the existing RX62T. This new MCU helps a variety of applications to reduce system cost and power consumption, such as industrial motor control, air conditioning, washing machines and solar inverter solutions. Through the new RX63T product, Renesas can provide the most complete solution for advanced motor control of 1 to 3 motors, such as the existing RX63T with fewer pins (for 1 motor), RX62T (for 2 Motors) and the new RX63T with a large number of pins (for 3 motors).

The RX63T platform uses a high-performance 32-bit RX CPU core with an operating clock of 100 MHz and a flash memory with zero wait states. It can achieve excellent 165 Dhrystone MIPS (DMIPS) performance and 312, CoreMark® scores. All RX63T and RX62T MCUs include built-in floating point unit (FPU) and DSP functions, so they are very suitable for the large number of operations and advanced motor control algorithms required for sensorless vector control. The new RX63T Group has added 48 products, so there are currently 54 products in the RX63T Group. By expanding the RX62T and RX63T low-footprint product series, the new RX63T products demonstrate Renesas' contribution to industrial motors and high-end consumer electronics. The new RX63T still maintains high compatibility with RX62T and RX63T low-footprint products. Current customers can easily transfer the RX62T and RX63T designs to higher-end versions through the new RX63T. As part of the RX family of products, RX63T provides a wide range of support, tools, and software ecosystems, with the goal of promoting hardware design and software development.

Main features of the new RX63T Group MCU:

(1) Timer The new RX63T MCU includes a multi-function timer unit (MTU3) specially designed for motor control, which can drive up to two three-phase motors, and a 16-bit general-purpose PWM timer that can drive one three-phase motor ( GPT). GPT can independently control the four channels of a single-phase inverter. This timer uses the same clock frequency as the CPU at 100 MHz, so that it can achieve various PWM output waveform widths with a resolution of at least 10 nanoseconds (ns).

(2) Motor vector control The new RX63T MCU can reduce costs and improve the accessibility of motor vector control applications. It has two 12-bit A / D converter units that can capture analog input values ​​with a minimum conversion time of 1 microsecond (µs).

(3) A / D converter The 12-bit A / D converter can be easily used for sensorless vector control, such as Three-shunt or Single-shunt current detection, because it can sample three input channels simultaneously. The dual data register installed in the 12-bit A / D module supports continuous A / D conversion. This 12-bit A / D includes three programmable gain amplifiers and three comparators. This has the opportunity to replace external operational amplifiers and comparators for overcurrent and overvoltage protection. Eliminating the external components mentioned above can reduce system cost and simplify PCB layout. The new RX63T also has a 10-bit A / D converter unit, is that enough? ? The analog input value is captured with a minimum conversion time of 0.5 µs. RX63T Group MCU also integrates many safety functions to comply with safety standards such as IEC60730, such as an independent watchdog timer (IWDT) connected to the chip's built-in clock.

The new RX63T also supports USB 2.0 host / device / OTG, CAN bus and single precision floating point unit (FPU). To help customers shorten the learning cycle of introducing new embedded system platforms, Renesas ’third-party and alliance partner networks provide a variety of hardware and software tools to support RX MCUs.

The components in the new RX63T Group provide scalable memory solutions, from 256 KB to 512 KB of flash memory, and up to 48 KB of embedded SRAM. It also includes an additional independent 32 KB data flash memory with background operation (BGO) function, which can write data while the program is running. The built-in flash memory uses Renesas ’proven MONOS (metal oxynitride) technology, which can be accessed without additional waiting, and then achieves maximum performance of 1.65 DMIPS / MHz at any CPU clock. There will be any delays due to flash memory technology. The above products will provide 100-pin, 112-pin, 120-pin and 144-pin LQFP packages. The RX63T series MCUs have been available since the end of November 2012, and mass production is scheduled for the end of May 2013. It is estimated that the production capacity of 400,000 units per month will be reached by March 2014.
