According to recent reports from international media, Osram has made significant progress in the development of smart automotive lighting technology. The company has introduced a groundbreaking hybrid LED with a resolution of 1024 pixels, allowing for individual pixel control. This innovation enables dynamic shaping of the light beam, ensuring optimal visibility for drivers while preventing glare from oncoming vehicles. This cutting-edge technology represents a major leap forward in smart car lighting. Known as Eviyos, the prototype matrix LED was developed under the AFS research project, initiated by Osram Opto Semiconductors in late 2016. The system integrates both the light-emitting chip and pixel-level control electronics into one compact component, making it highly versatile. One of the key features of the Eviyos LED is its flexibility. Users can choose how many hybrid LEDs to incorporate based on the specific needs of each vehicle, using them as an enhancement to traditional LED systems. Each pixel operates at just 11 mA, producing a minimum luminous intensity of 3 lumens, and can even create a soft, diffused effect when needed. The system is also energy-efficient. Unlike conventional setups where all pixels are constantly active, Eviyos only turns on the necessary light points, reducing power consumption. Additionally, optical activation or deactivation can be controlled through an LC (liquid crystal) intermediate layer, offering greater precision and adaptability. Osram has been exploring controllable multi-pixel light sources since 2010, aiming to build a comprehensive product ecosystem with various functionalities. The potential applications of this technology extend beyond automotive lighting, particularly in areas requiring intelligent control and targeted illumination. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, innovations like these are paving the way for smarter, safer, and more efficient driving experiences. Osram’s advancements in smart car lighting are not only impressive but also indicative of the future direction of automotive technology.
