According to the latest IDC market research, the global tablet market is still shrinking due to the unwillingness of global tablet users to upgrade equipment. In the second quarter of this year, total tablet shipments were 38.7 million units, down 12.3% from last year.

All tablet shipments have dropped, but Amazon has risen

IDC pointed out in the report that including detachable devices that can be used as laptops and tablets, 65% of the tablets shipped in the second quarter are equipped with Google (microblogging) Android operating system. Apple's iOS share is 26%, and Microsoft's Windows tablet share is 9%.

Although Android seems to have dominated the tablet market, IDC pointed out that "there is a preliminary indication that Android's market share will decline." The report said that the number of vendors selling Android tablets is now much smaller than in the past, and Dealers who once sold only Android tablets have now started selling Windows tablets.

"At this moment, it's hard for Android to compete against detachable Windows devices or iOS devices," IDC senior analyst Jitesh Ubrani said in a statement. "But the next 12 to 18 months will be very interesting, as Google will release the next generation of Android devices that support multiple tasks, and they all support dual operating systems."

IDC pointed out that Apple is still the world's largest tablet manufacturer, but the company's second-quarter shipments fell to 10 million units, down 9.2% from the same period last year. Samsung Electronics followed closely, with shipments of tablet PCs reaching 6 million units in the second quarter, down 24.5% from the same period last year. IDC expects the company's tablet shipments to change as Samsung Electronics begins selling more detachable devices.

Similar to the rise of detachable devices such as Lenovo's Yoga 900 and Microsoft's Surface Book, it represents one of the possible highlights of tablets, but so far, these products account for less than four cents of the global tablet market. one.

IDC also pointed out in the report that Amazon's Fire Tablet PC shipments reached 1.6 million units in the second quarter, 12 times the same period last year. IDC believes that the Amazon Fire Tablet shipments surged year-on-year due to the decline in the price of the product, and Amazon continues to promote the company's products through high-traffic retail sites. Currently, the 7-inch Fire tablet is priced at just $49.99. "Considering the growing popularity of Gold Membership Day promotions, it wouldn't be surprising if Amazon's tablet shipments this quarter have the same performance as the previous quarter."
