The LG Uplus achieves download speeds of up to 31 Gb/sec through 5G base stations, more than 100 times faster than the current 3-band LTE_A technology. When LG Uplus's 5G base station is commercialized, mobile handsets will be able to download 2Gb HD movies in 0.5 seconds.
This experiment was jointly conducted by LG Uplus and Huawei, a global network equipment manufacturer. LG Uplus achieves a download speed of 31 Gb/s by supporting “Massive MiMO†(a large-scale multiple input/multiple output technology) that is considered to be the core technology of the 5G network at ultra-high frequencies.
Large-scale multiple-input multiple-output technology refers to using multiple transmit and receive antennas at the transmit end and the receive end, respectively, and achieve multiple transmit and receive by multiple antennas, which can be doubled without increasing spectral resources and antenna transmit power. Increase system channel capacity.
With the application of Massive MiMO's ultra-wideband support equipment, even if several people are connected to a single base station at the same time, the network can provide all users with the 5G service they are told without slowing down any speed. Therefore, it can satisfy high-speed streaming live broadcast services such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and ultra high-definition broadcasting.
LG Uplus explained that the test was based on 5G test base stations and test terminals, and this is of great significance because it uses 28 GHz, which is considered to dominate South Korea's 5G frequency.
Therefore, LG Uplus is actively participating in the early commercialization of 5G base stations through cooperation with equipment manufacturers around the world, and at the same time, it is ensuring that it can maintain its leading position in 5G networks by introducing core technologies for next-generation networks.
Jiang Zhenghao, director of network technology at LG Uplus, stated: “Ericsson has already demonstrated a transmission rate of up to 26 Gbits per second through 5G test base stations. However, in this demonstration, LG Uplus introduced base stations and equipment based on 5G technology. It is faster than the base station originally developed. We expect to contribute to the activation of high-quality network services such as future 4K, 8K, Ultra HD and VR."
