Application of MLVERT-S Series High Voltage Frequency Converter in Converter Fan of Steel Plant
Tangshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. is one of China's top ten steel companies and was named one of China's top 100 listed companies. In order to further improve the level of technology and reduce energy consumption, the second steel plant decided to use high-voltage variable-frequency speed control technology on converter fans.
The steelmaking plant has four converters equipped with five fans for dust removal from the steelmaking process, four of which are in operation for a long period of time and one for standby. Five turbines are all equipped with hydraulic coupler speed control. Although the hydraulic coupling speed control also has the energy-saving effect, it has the disadvantages of low energy-saving efficiency, large maintenance workload, high maintenance cost, and inconvenience of changing the process parameters. The scientific and technical personnel of the second steelworks demonstrated that they proposed high-frequency variable-frequency energy-saving transformation of converter fans. From the current domestic and foreign two main types of high-voltage inverter topology, the second steel plant chose to adopt a three-level midpoint clamp topology for high-voltage frequency conversion. Because the number of switching power devices used in the three-level topology is small, the structure is simple and reliable, and in particular, this structure is easy to install energy absorbing devices. At the same time because the cabinet has a sine wave filter, suitable for long-distance applications.
After continuous operation and data analysis, it is shown that the 1000 kW converter fans and the second steel plant that use high-voltage inverters to regulate the speed of the motor are more than 6,000 kWh more per day than the motors that use the hydraulic coupler to regulate the speed. Energy efficiency reaches 37%. According to the statistics of the year, the energy-saving benefits are very significant. Due to the outstanding power-saving effect, Tangshan Iron and Steel No. 2 Steel Works also renewed two MLVERT series 1600KW/6KV high-voltage frequency converters to transform the furnace fans.
